Choosing a Home Pilates Reformer: PersonalHour's Seven Machines Compared

Six reformers and a Pilates chair from one home-Pilates brand: frames, springs, folding designs and what is included. What each is built for and what to check before you order.

Choosing a Home Pilates Reformer: PersonalHour's Seven Machines Compared

A Pilates reformer is a big purchase, and the options can look alike: a long frame, a sliding carriage, springs and ropes. The differences that matter are the frame material, whether it folds, how long it is and what comes in the box. PersonalHour is a brand that sells reformers and accessories for home and studio use, and its official store organizes the range by series: Janet, Zous, Nano, Nour and others. This guide picks seven main products, one per series, explains what each is designed for and sets out the details PersonalHour lists, so you can compare them side by side.

It suits first-time buyers weighing a foldable home reformer against a studio-size one, and anyone planning a small home studio. It does not provide independent test results: we have not hands-on tested these machines, so everything below comes from PersonalHour's official product pages and is described as the brand's claim. We cover the exercise equipment only.

The Janet line is PersonalHour's best-known: the brand describes the Janet 2.0 as the first reformer it designed itself and one of its most recognized models. The reformer is hand-finished natural maple, with six resistance springs (very light 15 lb, medium 35 lb and heavy 50 lb), an adjustable foot bar, a soft carriage cushion and double-loop straps. Expandable legs raise the frame by about 3 inches. The bundle also includes a Pilates box, jump board, foot cushion and grip foot pad.

The screen offers pivot, swivel and tilt viewing, 4K UHD resolution and built-in smart TV apps, with hidden wheels for moving it around.

It has a solid maple frame with a multi-layer protective coating, a high-resilience PU cushion seat, detachable and adjustable 304 stainless steel handles, an adjustable pedal and knobs, and high-rebound springs with a tension rope. The full-size chair measures 33.5 × 26.5 × 30 inches and comes with two or four springs depending on the selection. How to choose between them

Decide on space first, then frame material, then what you want included.

If you have limited space, the foldable models (Janet, Zous, Nour and Luraush) are designed to store away. If you have a permanent spot, a fixed Nano reformer avoids the folding mechanism altogether.

Things to know before buying

  1. Check dimensions and weight. Reformers are long and heavy. Zous Pro ships at 197.3 lb and Luraush at 240 lb. Plan the delivery route and how you will move the box.
  2. Folding has limits. PersonalHour notes that the Nour 2.0 is best left open for regular workouts and folded occasionally, so ask how often you really need to store it.
  3. Check what is included. Most reformers include a box, jump board and foot accessories, but contents differ. Read each package list.
  4. Frame materials differ. The range includes maple, oak and aluminum frames, with different looks and weights.
  5. Check weight and height guidance. The Nour lists a tested capacity of up to 400 lb and a recommended height up to about 6 ft 3 in, and the Luraush jump board supports up to 500 lb.
  6. Consult a professional if you have health concerns. An instructor or doctor can advise on exercises. This guide does not give medical advice.
  7. Prices and stock change. Check the store for the current price, models and availability.
